I am uniquely qualified to support parents of blind kids. As a blogger, advocate, mentor, author, speaker and Certified Braille Transcriber, my passion is supporting parents of blind kids who are navigating the public education system. I have raised two sons - one sighted and one blind. My blind son became valedictorian of his large public high school. He's now a music theory major at a large state university. My typically sighted son is a working structural geologist, who is living his dream of traveling and working internationally. I believe that blind children thrive when their parents focus on three pillars: Acceptance, Community & Education - including braille, assistive tech, and the white cane. This formula is what my upcoming book is about. (Stay tuned!)In 2009, I became very ill with three autoimmune diseases. Then, in 2013, my youngest son was diagnosed with progressive and aggressive sight loss. Learning about blindness and advocating for his equal and accessible education led to my interest in accessibility and braille transcription. Prior to becoming disabled, I was a Certified NeuroMuscular Therapist and clinic owner. Before that, I was a director of global marketing for entertainment and high-tech firms. My personal experience with disability combined with my professional background in marketing, mindfulness and writing have made me a strong advocate for parents of blind children and a champion for accessibility.
