Kimihiro Sera, S.E., president and co-founder of STRUCTCON, Consulting Structural Engineers in Fresno, Calif., has been serving customers in the California Central Valley for more than 50 years. His experience includes educational, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the Central Valley, and he has been personally responsible for the structural design of such significant projects such as Fresno City Hall, the North Expansion at Kaweah Delta District Hospital, Fresno Heart Hospital, Selland Arena expansion, Fresno County Main Detention Facilities and Fresno State University's original Bulldog Stadium.Born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan, Kimihiro traveled to the United States after graduating high school in Japan. He attended Edison High School and Fresno City College to study English and learn the American culture. After completing his general education at Fresno City College, he attended California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering. With a love for the Central Valley, he returned to Fresno and started his career working for Brewster and Gruelich and Ralph E. Lind, Jr., Consulting Structural Engineer. It was there, that he received his Civil and Structural Engineering license from the State of California.In 1971, he joined Ralph E. Lind and Richard Silberstein and co-founded STRUCTCON. He became president of STRUCTCON in 1987 and continues in that capacity. Throughout his career, he has been an active member of several organizations, including the Structural Engineers Association of California, California and National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies, Construction Specification Institute, Fresno Host Lion's Club and the Buddhist Churches of America. In 1992, he was honored Outstanding Engineer of the year by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Fresno Branch.
