Skills developed: negotiation and conflict resolution techniques, being careful of the traps of collusion and client denial when working to resolve interpersonal complaints between client and professionals, using non-verbal strategies to engage clients and build rapport, and empowering clients to take agency in their recovery. Skills developed: containing and being with client distress and working towards developing relational depth, formulating client process, creating an open and safe therapeutic space, exploring and being congruent with clients and being open to using the self in the ‘here and now’ to notice client transferences. Placement on PsychD: The North London Clinic, The Priory, Edmonton Green, London (11/2016-04/2017) Working individually with male clients on a weekly basis, for up to six months on a forensic low secure ward and locked rehabilitation ward. Using an integrative model and value focused motivational interviewing to work psychologically with clients who presented with developmental trauma, dissociation, disorganised attachment, and sexually inappropriate behaviours. Skills developed: building therapeutic alliance with clients who clients who were often quite hostile and rejecting of therapy and took months to develop some trust and motivation to engage in therapeutic engagement; using my self in the here and now to promote safety and security in the relationship, using supervision to formulate client histories and developed ways of relating.
