Clinical-stage ex-vivo gene therapy company treating genetic diseases with the patient's own stem cells. Developed an efficient process for manufacturing the autologous drug product across multiple sites. Head of Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality and Supply Chain, overseeing clinical supply of plasmids, vectors and drug product (gene-modified cells), and managing multiple CDMO relationships globally.

Managed a business unit with revenues of $10M+, working closely with clients to develop processes for GMP manufacturing of their cell-based therapeutic, and oversaw the transfer to manufacturing. Represented Lonza at conferences (~12 per year) to give presentations on technical achievements and capabilities, and chaired sessions and panel discussions.

Expanded the Process Development group under Lonza, including space, equipment, staff and skill sets. Established Process Development as an essential and integral part in the rapidly-growing field of Cell Therapy.

Established a new group to work with research-based processes from clients requesting to move to GMP manufacturing. Developed extensive skill sets in the group to assist clients in all aspects of scale-up and preparation for GMP, and transfer to the Cambrex manufacturing unit.

Led a global group of scientists developing new products for the research market in primary human cells and related assays. Launched many successful research products, including the first mesenchymal stem cell product for the research market.

Founded and ran a company to supply bone marrow and umbilical cord blood to researchers, addressing a large unmet need. Set up cord blood sourcing at local hospitals and a bone marrow donor program with a physicians group. Very successful and profitable business acquired by Cambrex Corp in 1999.

Recruited to establish a Hematology program, with the goal to identify and clone growth factors for megakaryocytes, the unique polyploid cells in bone marrow which produce platelets. Also developed novel assays to quantify growth and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells.

Worked on identifying novel hematopoietic growth factors by developing large-scale cell culture systems, fractionating proteins from the cell supernatants, and utilizing high-throughput cell-based assays to identify active fractions.
