She is Principal of Sustainability Makes Cents Consulting and a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Kim's sustainability work has been published in Plan Canada, Public Sector Digest, Asset Management BC Newsletter, Planning West, and ReNew Canada. She is an inaugural member of Asset Management BC, was the first Director of Sustainability in the City of Victoria, and was appointed to the BC Brownfield Advisory Group and Smart Growth BC board. Her design of the Sustainability Initiative for the City of Port Coquitlam integrated 12 land development activities from the corporate strategic level through budget and business planning to individual projects and applications. The Initiative won a Smart Growth BC award in 2006. She project managed the development concept and land sale of the City of Victoria Dockside lands, which were awarded the highest LEED™ Platinum point total in the world (63 of a total of 70 points) for the first phase of development by the successful land sale developers. The Dockside Green project has won over 20 international to local sustainability awards, including the 2005 Canadian Brownie Award from the Canadian Urban Institute and 2005 Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence. Kim recently received the Individual Award for Innovation and Advocacy from the Planning Institute of British Columbia. The award honours and recognizes a registered professional planner who demonstrates outstanding leadership, tenacity, and advocacy on planning issues either in their community, provincially, or more broadly. Their continual persistence and/or innovation contribute to the ongoing success of PIBC and the planning profession. Kim was noted as an innovator who refuses to accept conventional wisdom and ways of doing things and strives to push the envelope and take planning to a higher level.

I've owned a condo in the development since 2009 so the book covers the entire 18-year lifespan of the project from initiation, design, construction, operation and culture.
