I have the highest regard for his good judgment, discernment, and commitment to see the team through tight spots. His versatile leadership in programs, teaching, and operations helped us deliver consistent quality for our summer guests. Time and again, Donald sacrificed his own comfort and convenience to do what was best for our guests and for the team. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside him." and "In John chapter eight, a group of men took a woman who was caught in the act of adultery to Jesus. While they demanded that He tell them what horrific thing would be done to the woman in return, Jesus stooped down and began drawing in the dust. They continued demanding so He stood and said that whoever had never sinned could throw the first stone. He then continued to write in the dust.
I choose to stop here. Because to this day, we don’t know what Jesus wrote in the dust. It was small, it was insignificant, it did not drastically alter the story, and maybe it’s because no one really cares. But He did it anyway. and I think that’s the point.
Small things matter. Small things are how you leave evidence that you were there in all the lives around you.
I had the pleasure of going to school with Donald and serving alongside him in student council. I know from personal experience that he was one of the few that made a priority of doing those small things.
From offering to arrive early to help set up for an event to gathering feedback afterwards to learn how to better serve his community, Donald was irreplaceable. He kept things running smoothly because he had a natural eye for the things that would otherwise go unnoticed.
I am grateful for my years working alongside Donald and his cheerful spirit, and envy any other individual that might have the same pleasure.
