Words. Grammar. Language. Stories. These are the things that make me tick. As a child, I actually enjoyed diagramming sentences in English class. I loved taking sentences down to their base components in order to fully understand them. But more importantly, I loved reading. If ever I had a spare moment, I spent it with a book in my hands. Stories proved to be as vital for my continued existence as air or water. However, it wasn’t until I was older that my love of stories as a whole evolved into a love of what makes up a story: arcs, tropes, character types, narrative building blocks. And from there, that love evolved into a love of the written word itself. Sentence structure. Syntax. Word usage. Punctuation. My childhood love of diagramming sentences became realized as a love of editing. When I discovered the world of publishing , everything clicked. Finally, I could use my passion for words to help other people achieve their dreams of writing and becoming published authors.As a proofreader, copy editor, and line editor, I help people achieve a higher level of professionalism in their writing. I’m the person who goes through an author’s work with a fine tooth comb to make sure that what they have written reflects their voice in the most coherent and correct way possible.As a developmental editor, my goal is to look at the big picture aspects of a story, such as the plot, characterizations, perspective, and world building, to help authors bring their stories to life in the best way they can. My job isn’t to “fix mistakes” but to simply ask questions and give advice on how to strengthen a narrative.My education consists of an English degree with honors from Toccoa Falls College with continued education in proofreading, copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing from Proofed, Edit Republic, and ClubEdFreelance.
