Facing into the challenges of unprecedented world events and the unrelenting pace of change dictates more flexibility, agility and future focus than ever before. Nowhere is this more apparent than in risk management. As an executive team member and adviser with 15 years’ combined experience in risk, compliance and safety, I have seen, across industries, the pressing need to transform, mature and constantly re-align the way a business manages risk amidst new and emerging risks and shifting risk appetites. This is my passion, in not only managing risk, but in converting opportunity at all levels. What has always been key to me is the importance of measuring in management. Detail focused, I believe that effective risk management comes down to understanding your business from the bottom-up, before designing and implementing holistic, top down frameworks that align with strategic goals and are fit-for-purpose through careful alignment with unique organisational nuances. Measuring, i.e., collecting, analysing and utilising critical organisational data for management is critical to this success. Shown across a series of roles from QUT to more recently with PCYC, I have leveraged data, and detail, to create sophisticated and multi-layered enterprise risk management frameworks and supporting management systems that provide transparency to executive teams and Boards, protect organisational integrity and importantly, enable growth in line with risk appetites. Involving the review of all operational policies and delegations across the organisation, I worked in partnership with leaders to drive engagement and adoption of the new risk management process. I also served as a key adviser to the Board on a range of topics including business impact reviews on critical risks, the implementation of PCI DSS (data privacy) and emerging and future risks.
