  • National Institute Of Standards And Technology
Research Chemist - Gas Sensing Metrology Group
National Institute Of Standards And Technology Jul 2014 - Present
    Gaithersburg, Md
    • Design and application of rigorous analytical methods for the quantification of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and chlorinated halocarbons in high pressure gas mixtures including whole real (ambient) samples, utilizing gas chromatography/flame ionization and electron capture detection as well as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry• Cochair of the CO2 scale establishment and use team within the CCQM-GAWG GHG Scales task team. This work is fostering collaboration between NMIs, WMO, and regional metrology laboratories working to draft guidance for the development and utilization of CO2 scales in NMIs and other laboratories. • Development of primary gravimetric standards, traceable to the mol, through utilization of high precision mass balances containing part per trillion level halocarbons, monoterpenes, and other greenhouse gases, for use in the certification and support of new standard reference materials (SRM)• Development and implement of novel analytical techniques for the in situ measurement of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane in electrolysis experiments for the determination of faraday efficiencies in collaboration with NIST Materials Science and Engineering Division and the NIST Neutron Imaging User Facility• Utilization of an Aerodyne Tunable Infrared Laser Differential Absorption Spectroscopy (TILDAS) for the quantification of the gravimetrically blended SI traceable del13C-CO2 and del18O-CO2 standards for use in source apportionment and absolute line intensity research allowing for value assignment independent of, but in close agreement, with the Vienna Pee Dee Belemnite (VPDB) scale• Supporting academic and industry partners through analysis of process gas samples and certification of research gas mixtures (RGM) and NIST traceable reference materials (NTRM)
