In all honesty, a career in Human resources fell into my lap after taking the Myers Briggs personality test. To my surprise, it was definitely a good match. I come from a background in Cultural Anthropology, the study of people and culture. I studied how individuals understand and operate successfully in distinct cultural settings. We are all so different and we all share different perspectives of life, but we are usually so clouded by our own perspective that we often fail to acknowledge the point of view of others, hence how conflicts arise. Does this sound like HR to you? I think so! With my experience as a Human Resources professional, I have learned you must acknowledge everyone as their own person with their own opinions and ideas, if not, you’ll end up loosing amazing members of your workforce. (Resulting in high turnover) True leaders are those who believe in the potential of their employees. Who understand their employees perspectives and who genuinely care about developing a strong workforce. That is who I aim to always be.
