As a Research Assistant at the CDC-funded Prevention Research Center working on the Health Promotion Through Environmental Design (HPTED) project, I support project management and evaluation. Specifically, I work with our community partners to monitor and evaluate their activities and link environmental health strategies to health outcomes and crime rates.

As Walk Chair for the annual Out of the Darkness Walk, I was responsible for securing all logistical aspects of the walk including venue, keynote speakers, communicating details of the event to walkers, and encouraging and supporting fundraising efforts. I was also the president for the student organization where I direct executive board meetings and oversee four committees that serve to facilitate educational programs, fundraise, recruit walkers, and plan the walk. I also served as the student body representative for the University of Michigan Campus Suicide PreventionGrant Taskforce.

I worked with NIDA grant recipient, Roland Clay Merchant, to develop a pilot study to test for alcohol and substance use disorder in the emergency depart patients. I implemented this study in the ED and interviewed over 80 patients. I also promoted the use of rapid HIV testing in the emergency department by presenting the benefits to emergency medicine administration staff, improved persuasive communication intervention for emergency department patients whorefused HIV testing, and created order sets and decision guides for consensual sexual and nonsexual source exposure to HIV.

The Emotion and Self Control Lab at the University of Michigan's Psychology Department uses many approaches to study how humans control their emotions. More specifically, I worked on a study focused on the perception of pain. My projects included creating study stimuli, improving study design, interviewing participants, and training new research assistants.
