The Project: UC adopted the COSO framework for enterprise risk management (ERM) some years ago. UC engaged IBM to implement an ERM information system (ERMIS) to support UC’s ERM efforts. The UC ERMIS includes implementation of IBM’s Cognos 10, Lotus Forms, Information Server, and Websphere products, as well as an ERM website and multiple custom web applications. UC is a 10-campus system, with 5 medical centers and the management of one national energy laboratory.UC has touted the success of this program in a March 2010 press release, including the savings of over $200M in the cost of risk since 2006. In addition, in September 2010, Standard & Poors specifically reported in UC’s bond ratings that UC’s implementation of ERMIS is a factor that improves the university’s credit rating. This increases UC’s return on investment for the system, as a reduction in the cost of debt of even 1/10th of a percent results in millions in savings to UC.My role: Function as Program Manager and Project Executive for ERMIS initiatives and implementations which includes IBM, UC and multiple other vendor resources. Responsible for all financial, administrative and technical aspects for a global team of 50+ FTE. My impact: Developed a PMO to support ERM initiatives, ensuring project portfolio prioritization, risk assessment and value, identifying and resolving issues, and generating client satisfaction.
