Manage and administer the Iowa Accountability Program, a $1.3 million grant project to improve the court’s response to domestic violence in an effort to enhance victim safety and improve offender accountability. The mission of the Iowa Accountability Program is to examine the Courts’ response to domestic violence. Coordinate efforts within the judicial branch to assist with policy development, decision-making to improve statewide court administration functions and serve as a liaison on behalf of the State Court Administrator. Provide strategic planning, contract development, negotiation, and management. Hire and supervise program staff, volunteers, trainers and consultants. Develop grants, prepare grant budget requests, and oversee expenditures. Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of projects and programs undertaken by each grant. Develop written reports, procedural instructions, press releases, and correspondence. Plan, develop and facilitate cultural proficiency, leadership, and diversity training and conduct training analysis.

Appointed by the Governor, I served as the state’s content expert on issues relating to the African American population in Iowa. Supervised staff, oversaw the division’s budget, developed and implemented training programs, provided technical assistance to the Governor, state legislature, other state agencies, educational institutions and community organizations. Developed and published the first ever-statewide calendar of events for the African American community. Developed and published a statewide African American Resource Guide. Served as an advocate for Iowa’s African American population to ensure their human rights were not being violated. Worked with public officials, community organizations and individual constituents to conduct equity investigations, develop policy and programming on issues affecting African Americans in Iowa. Served as a cross-agency expert in the areas of cultural competence, Affirmative Action and Equal Employment, anti-bias and closing the educational achievement gap. Provided training and technical assistance for schools, law enforcement and other state agencies across the state.
