Substitute Teacher

Current

Hudson, Ny

Substitute Teaching at Hudson City School District's three schools in various departments and subjects. Librarian, First grade, Computers, and aiding the staff in CODING for third graders have been my most challenging roles. How rewarding it is, however, when students "of color" (from Black and Asian American ethnicities) are in awe of you when they see you on the streets they live on and say in whispers to themselves, "That's our sub teacher. She really helped me to read." AND As rewarding? When those students who are not "of color," who identify as "white" aren't shocked, but very happy to share with their parents in the local supermarket line in a loud voice that they know "that person over there"..."she taught in my classroom." Having parents seek me out and thank me for "my service" is worth subbing. "Why are you not making a lot of money with that IVY LEAGUE degree in education of yours?" my relatives ask. Because I literally ENJOY that my presence makes a difference-a difference that I had wanted. (How else could I write children's books and non-fiction works on Ending Racism, while self-promoting them?) "I am where I am; And that's where I belong."

From 2016-2017 (SKNVibes) Less of a title than a full immersion into every area in which the new company was involved.
