About Kimberly Miller

Ms. Miller is a Certified Professional Planner with over 25 years of public and private sector experience. As Black & Veatch as Gulf Coast Regional Planning Resilience Leader, she's part of a nationwide effort to prepare communities for a wide variety of shocks and stresses. Previously, she helped a Texas-based company establish a multi-state regional resilience initiative, working collaboratively with Water Resource, Environmental, Transportation and Civil Engineering Professionals. She began her career at the City of Austin, as the master planner for the redevelopment of Mueller Austin. In New York City, as the primary planner for the Municipal Art Society, she led the development of a plan for the Brooklyn Waterfront which was the first step in the creation of a multimillion-dollar greenway on the East River. Post 9/11, Miller served the recovery effort in a number of capacities, from managing the design of a 3-D GIS model of Downtown and assisting with region-wide efforts to involve the public in the New York New Vision and Imagine New York civic initiatives. After Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Miller relocated to the Gulf Coast with Oxfam America to build the capacity of local community development organizations recovering from the storm. As recovery progressed, she transitioned to a consulting role, preparing plans to help coastal communities grow more sustainably through traditional growth and land use planning, while mitigating hazards, assessing and adapting to changing sea levels and planning for cleaner waterways through green infrastructure. She assisted with development of regional flood plans for several river basins with the Texas Water Development Board and is currently the Outreach Coordinator for the GLO's LRGV River Basin Flood study as well as a ground-breaking Pedestrian Evacuation effort.
