The Debate-Inspired Classrooms (formerly Evidence-Based Argumentation - EBA) School-wide Initiative trains and supports teachers to facilitate rigorous and student-centered classrooms focused on developing skills in argumentation. Using a scaffolded approach, teachers guide students through a progression of skills as they learn to build complete and logical arguments using claim, evidence, and reasoning. The Instructional Coach meets with teachers and teacher teams to co-plan lessons, look at student work, observe teachers in the classroom and provide detailed feedback on their practice, and co-teach or model debate-inspired lessons. Coach leads school-wide professional development to deepen understanding of debate-inspired pedagogy and reflect on the school’s progress and instructional priorities and create opportunities for teachers to share work with one another across grade levels and content areas.

Overseeing the day-to-day operations of an elementary school of 500+ students in partnership with the school's Administrative Team; establishing a safe and nurturing environment for students (Grades K1 through 5, including a Therapeutic Learning Community of students identified with emotional disabilities), staff, and families; building relationship with and facilitating partnerships with parents; collaborating with community organizations in providing supports to students and families; observing instruction and working in partnership with the Administrative Team to build systems and supports to realize the mission and strategic goals of college-readiness and academic and social-emotional success for all students.

Waltham, Ma

Provided technical assistance and comprehensive reviews of special education programs and settings in urban public school districts, with particular focus on the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support and expanding inclusive schooling practices; developed networks of inclusive public schools through which teachers and school leaders built communities of practice and learned from one another; created in-person and web-based multidisciplinary professional development opportunities for teachers, school leaders, and district administrators.

Managed state-funded 21st Century Community Learning Center providing students a broad array of enrichment opportunities, during non-school hours; responsible for developing and administering CLC’s budget, fundraising, billing and payment, program planning and development, contract management, and oversight of day-to-day operations; established viable partnerships with local community agencies resulting in diverse offering of courses and experiences for students and families.

Through initiative of the YMCA of Greater Boston, Boston Public Schools, and Mayor Thomas Menino’s office designed to engage families who opt out of the public school system, provided one-to-one counseling and community workshops helping parents become informed consumers and assisting them as they navigate a continuum of school choices; provided technical assistance to principals on marketing programs and services.

Led reviews of special education settings and services; provided technical assistance on implementing collaborative, team-based problem-solving and planning of instruction and services in schools throughout New England to influence the quality and effectiveness of settings and services for students at risk in general education, students of color, students with disabilities, ELL students, and adjudicated youth.

Managed community service program for middle and high school students sponsored by the foundation of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum; hired, trained, supported, and supervised full-time staff and part-time team of high school employees; managed program budget, student recruitment and retention, and oversight of four Boston school-based sites; established and maintained positive relationships with school administrators and teachers; organized service projects and opportunities for students to travel throughout New England and Washington DC to meet community leaders and other youth engaged in community service and activism.

Recruited, trained, and placed in public school sites college and graduate students to serve as volunteer tutors in after-school program; interviewed, hired, supervised, placed, and trained college work-study employees who served as lead tutors; ensured tutor retention and support by revising written policies and code of conduct and providing regular orientations and monthly trainings; informed, engaged, motivated and increased buy-in from community by writing quarterly newsletter and disseminating amongst parents, volunteers, supporters, and funders throughout the country.
