In the summer of 2019, my dear colleague, Mr.Cooper and I traveled across the nation, seeking the best methods to grow nutritious crops. Along the way, we met incredible farmers practicing 'natural farming' and 'natural agriculture,' using minimal chemicals, fertilizers, and water. Their stories resonated with us.We initially wanted to connect these amazing products with urban consumers, but commercialization proved challenging due to the focus on soil health over productivity. This experience made us realize agriculture's crucial role in fighting the climate crisis.This led to the creation of 'ThanksCarbon,' a venture focused on reducing carbon emissions through agriculture. Inspired by the '4 per 1000 Initiative' from the 2015 Paris Agreement, we saw that increasing soil carbon sequestration by just 0.04% annually could significantly reduce atmospheric CO2 by 2050.Fast forward to 2024, and ThanksCarbon is on a mission to reduce methane emissions from rice farming. Asia's 136 million hectares of rice paddies emit 780 million tons of carbon annually. We've developed a satellite-based MRV solution to track carbon reduction efforts, starting with the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.We are committed to transitioning 3 million hectares of rice paddies to low-carbon practices by 2029. Our goal is to make AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) technology accessible to farmers in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Laos, and Sri Lanka, converting these reductions into carbon credits.ThanksCarbon is dedicated to working with governments and global corporations to achieve significant carbon reductions. Every step we take is a step toward a healthier planet.
