As a resident engineer for Brose I assist their customer, Volvo Cars Corp. and China Euro Vehicle Technology (CEVT), with integration of the power operated tailgate (POT) and touchless opening sensors. Main purpose of the role is to be a physical extension of the German team on-site at the customers handling issues that arise during system integration and development. Regular tasks include communication, software and hardware updates, system monitoring in various rigs and vehicles, issue identification and problem solving.

Main purpose of the role was to be a physical extension of the German team on-site at CEVT and handling issues that arose during system integration. Assisting Delphi customers on-site with integration of active safety systems including installing radar and camera systems, testing and evaluation of system performance and facilitating communication between customers and Delphi. The assignment incorporated handling various activities including being in charge of longer running subprojects. Main client was Volvo Cars in Sweden where I was a part of a resident team. I also commuted to France and Germany working on a similar project for Renault. Furthermore, assistance was provided to Volvo Cars on various expeditions such as winter testing in the north of Sweden, Heat validation in the US deserts and sensor/algorithm testing in several European countries.

For Stena I established a small scale test and development center for new recycling methods using microwave technology and pyrolysis. The main focus was on advanced technical materials such as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) but also included extraction of precious metals from paint, reducing dioxins in ash and recycling biohazard materials. In cooperation with Latronix Systems we ran a pilot study where we developed and built a prototype in order to verify its performance and establish the parameters required to create a full scale processing plant. The assignment involved several engineering disciplines such as mechanical design, product- and process development, automation, maintenance and planning. Apart from internal research the facility was also used for public research projects which expanded the assignment to also include customer visits, demonstrations and evaluation of test results.

The goal of the Master thesis was to improve offset management at SAAB Defense. Each division of SAAB mainly handles their own offset management related to military technology and the department of international co-operation all other types of offset. Focus was on increasing interdivision cooperation through mapping the various methods used at the different department and suggests areas of improvement. The work included several interviews, workshops and reviews of internal routines and policies. The resulting suggestions for improvement have all been used by Saab and have led to improved profit margins and increased customer satisfaction.

A majority of the data collection was done in Sweden but also abroad in order to evaluate particularly difficult driving situations. The department later became a part of Delphi and where I was later hired to be a resident engineer working with the same systems.

In every crash test one or several test dummies are used to examine how a real human would handle an impact. The dummies are equipped with advanced sensors such as accelerometers and more. The assignment included maintain the dummies, to prepare them for tests and constantly test, calibrate and constantly replace sensors and parts. The assignment also included assisting in the insertion/extraction of the dummies into cars and various rigs.

It was a great opportunity that provided valuable knowledge about the engineering profession and based on this I knew better in which way to steer my own education. The internship was a part of the education at Gothenburg Technical Collage. It also proved to be extra valuable since I returned to the proving grounds during my work as resident engineer for Delphi a few years later.
