English Teacher at Twentynine Palms High School. Developed a rich, engaging English language arts curriculum for regular instruction, gifted and talented, and ELD students in grades 9-12. Planned thought-provoking lessons employing a variety of teaching tools, techniques, and methodologies, including differentiated instruction, direct instruction, systematic instruction, scaffolding, and explicit instruction. Employed practical behavior management within classroom, establishing reasonable, consistent rules that create a positive, supportive, and nurturing atmosphere for all students. Key Accomplishments Lead Teacher for the last three years, with responsibility for taking over the duties of the Assistant Principal during his absence. Identified the need for expanded SAT prep instruction; researched, developed, and implemented a successful after-school SAT program. Devised the concept of an accelerated 10th grade English class that would incorporate two advanced-level novels, integrate advanced vocabulary, introduce advanced literature concepts, and provide students with the required skills necessary to progress into Advanced Placement classes the following year. Served as liaison for the Gifted and Talented program (GATE), contributing to monthly district meetings and parent conferences. Developed a school-wide GATE plan for the 120 students qualifying for the program, managing a funding budget of $2,000+. Sponsored the school's yearbook staff for four years; raised $2,000+ in advertising revenue to offset publishing costs. Also, served as senior class advisor for four years, with responsibility for coordinating fund raising, homecoming, prom, and graduation activities Mentored and developed teachers through the Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment program (BTSA).
