During the 1990s I was quite active in the San Francisco underground art scene, participating as a performance artist, spoken word artist, and interactive theater director/performer. In 1999, I opened a small nightclub to create employment and performance opportunities for myself and other members of my community. The Hush Hush Lounge was a successful and well-loved Mission District venue known for its intimate atmosphere, strong community spirit, fabulous variety shows, and multimedia dance events. As the owner of this venue, I gained experience in entertainment, event planning, business management, community building, hiring/firing, public speaking and public relations. I was able to hire a manager after the first few years of operation, a situation that allowed me to participate in an esoteric psychology group called the Institute of Conscious Studies. This inner experience effected me deeply, and I sold the nightclub in 2006 to focus exclusively on personal and collective transformation. I shifted my focus in this way because I see that humanity is at a crucial point in our history, and I want to make my contribution to the creation of a more harmonious, sustainable world.
