Animal Care Manager
Working with a team of staff and volunteers to manage care for patients at the Wild Bird Fund, which receives more than 7,000 intakes each year. This includes medicating and feeding a wide range of animals, from Northern Gannets to pigeons to migratory songbirds, as well as constantly assessing patients’ condition and progress, researching and implementing best husbandry practices for individual species, and coordinating releases. As leader of the WBF’s songbird team, I introduced a number of changes to our protocols, based on research and information gathered from experienced wildlife rehabilitators elsewhere, and spearheaded the creation of our first-ever aviary by renovating a chicken coop in Brooklyn. My responsibilities also include managing anywhere from four to twelve volunteers each day; in addition, I took over our high school internship program in January 2020 and was responsible for training and supervising a group of eight interns until COVID-19 forced the program to close.
