Passionate about safeguarding the environment whilst sustaining safe and healthy livelihoods, I've been involved in a number of projects over the years in Mongolia, Bangladesh, South Sudan, and Indonesia. Landscape-based forest restoration has been my main field of interest since I did my graduation project on the topic in South Africa in 2007, and over the years my interest in sustainable agriculture (permaculture) and agroforestry has been fed through practical courses and project implementation experiences. I lived and worked in Jambi, Sumatra (Indonesia) for over two years to work on peatland restoration and the topic of paludiculture (peat swamp cultivation) in particular. I formulated technical revegetation strategies and plans and value chain assessments of peatland commodities (tree species). Before my relocation to Indonesia, I worked intermittently in Bangladesh where I developed Environmental Management plans, promoted sustainable agriculture trials (i.e. hydroponics/ aquaponics), and supported M&E activities.Back in the Netherlands since mid-2018, I refocussed my attention to activities in my direct surroundings, and have been designing and developing my own edible forest garden at home. Since January 2021, I have started working as study advisor for the BSc Soil, Water, Atmosphere / MSc Earth & Environment programmes at Wageningen University.
