For more than eight years I have been helping organizations and high-profile individuals develop their narratives, proactively manage concerns and build external relationships. I am a team player who thrives on simplifying complex issues, brings forth fresh ideas and adapts quickly to shifting priorities. Prior to my work in media and public relations, I was a national television news reporter. Even though I’m retired from being in front of the camera, I still work with several of my former colleagues in my media relations capacity and have built new relationships with journalists working in television, radio and print today. From sitting with the decision makers of influential news outlets, I know what it takes to pitch a story to an editor for approval, how to boil down weedy topics to get a meeting with a reporter and most importantly, what tactics a journalist will respond to or not.Working in television news really gave me a great work foundation and set of skills that can translate into ANY role. Here are a few ways my reporting experience can benefit your company:• I'm ON TIME. Missing a deadline meant a blank hole in a newscast, it could not happen.• I'm SOCIABLE. I'm used to working with many people with a variety of skills and personalities to make a story come to life.• I'm PERSUASIVE. Most days I would cold call a person and convince them to tell me their life story on camera.• I'm CREATIVE. A news package is typically 1.5 minutes, that's a lot of time to fill. So whether its a court house wedding on Valentine's Day or a press conference where nothing new was announced, you've got to come up with a story to tell.• I can MULTI-TASK. While chit chatting with a guest, listening to a producer in my ear and taking direction from my cameraman to get the shot, I had to appear calm and be ready for my que.• I can ADAPT. When mistakes happen, they were acknowledged, addressed and everyone moves on.• I'm a STORYTELLER. A news story needs to be informative and memorable so my focus to get the guest to explain what drives them and why our audience should care.
