As a patent attorney my job was to help companies and inventors to protect their inventions. I wrote and prosecuted patent applications, represented clients before patent offices, made invention harvesting for the client companies and performed other patent attorney tasks, such as advising clients in IPR matters, performing patent database searches and novelty searches. The team I worked with focused on telecommunications and electricity, but I worked partially also in mechanics area by managing a couple of patent application families with mechanical substance. I also took part in new client aquisitions, where the company's overal IPR situation was evaluated in IPR strategy point of view. I analyzed the company's granted and pending patents in these assignments in risk management point of view.

I am currently seeking new challenges.

As a patent engineer I processed and evaluated internet services area invention reports for decision making purposes. I proposed patenting for the promising inventions. I coordinated and managed preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications. I communicated to both directions in the patenting process; towards the drafting Patent Attorney as well as the Inventors. I promoted Nokia wide patent awareness and identified possible inventions from projects and new emerging technologies. This was done via invention pulling sessions among the project personnel. Patent portfolio management was also one of the areas I dealt with as a patent engineer. I identified important patents from my portfolio so they were utilized in the best possible way, and on the other hand patents that I identified less important were cleaned away to liberate resources for use elsewhere.My personal patent portfolio was comprised of 80 patent families. During the time period, I evaluated about 160 invention reports which of circa 40 were accepted to patent applications and which I further was responsible for filing.

My roles were various in this period of time in Nokia: I started in Technology Platform's IP protocols team. I investigated possible use case scenarios of IP based protocols in mobile communications. Later the focus of team was moved to investigation and identification of emerging new technologies, especially in the area of proximity networks. I made feasibility studies and technology studies in that area. I wrote my thesis while working in this team. The thesis “Quality of Service in TE-MT arrangement” studied a 3G quality of service signaling in a split terminal case.Further I worked for S60 PIM application department. I studied group management area, how it was arranged in other mobile platforms, in community services, in Internet service providers' services etc. Later I joined to personal information management technology team, where I produced benchmark studies, technology studies, clarifications, etc. of the group management. These studies were used by product management team as guiding parameters when new features were designed to Phonebook, Clock, Calendar and Office applications in future platform releases.I also worked as a Personal Information Management (PIM) application area’s Error Manager for S60 software platform. My responsibilities comprised error management actions in error database. Error Management work consists of both database managing and communication to different actors in software development process, i.e. project managers, testers and developers. I communicated continually with all the involved people for ensuring that everyone was working with the most critical errors. I reported weekly the error situation to the project managers. As an Error Manager I evaluated impact of errors and made handling decisions for errors. Error manager is needed in software development projects for ensuring quality of code and for smooth in time -release of different code versions.

I worked for Radio Access Systems organization and more precisely in Testing Automatization team. I updated testing macros for Base Station Controller.
