Dr. Kim Mooney, a proud Franklin Pierce University alumna and its first female president, recently concluded a transformative tenure marked by strategic growth. She dedicated 45 years to Franklin Pierce, beginning as a member of the Alumni Board of Directors, advancing to the Board of Trustees, serving as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and culminating as President from 2016 to 2024.Under her leadership, she positioned Franklin Pierce University for long-term sustainability through clear strategic objectives and the tripling of the University’s endowment, and the significant growth of allied health graduate programs in New Hampshire, Arizona, and Texas. Her unrelenting focus on student success pushed the University to reach and sustain historic student retention rates. Fostering a culture of planning, she established an ongoing strategic planning process and was instrumental in fostering robust collaborations with civic leaders, businesses, and healthcare facilities across New Hampshire, New England, and nationally. During her tenure, the University established the College of Business, the College of Health and Natural Sciences, and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to integrate graduate and undergraduate programs within related disciplines, giving prominence to growing programs, meeting students where they are, enabling them to succeed academically to prepare for rewarding careers across a breadth of fields. President Mooney also reinforced the university's role as an economic force and strategic partner in the region. Her efforts boosted the university's visibility, strengthened its reputation, and secured the resources necessary for continued investment in its centers and programs.Under Dr. Mooney’s presidency, Franklin Pierce University was recognized twice by Business NH Magazine as one of the Top Women-Led Businesses and Nonprofits in New Hampshire, in 2018 and 2022. In 2022, she was named one of the Keene Sentinel’s Extraordinary Women for her significant contributions to the Greater Monadnock region and was the recipient in 2024 of the Greater Monadnock Collaborative’s first THRIVE Award for community impact. She was also recognized in 2024 with Rotary International’s highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellowship. Prior to her time at Franklin Pierce, Dr. Mooney contributed two decades of service to St. Lawrence University. Dr. Mooney holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of New Hampshire and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology and English from Franklin Pierce College.
