Growing up in South Africa during the 1990s, I witnessed much inequality and poverty. After backpacking through some of the world's most remote regions, visiting 18 developing countries, and working with various NGOs to rebuild communities, I saw the acute need for digital infrastructure in these regions. As part of the Center for Computational Finance and Economic Systems (CoFES) and as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow (NSF GRFP), I finished up an MA in Economics while also pursuing a Ph.D. in Statistics at Rice University. In this context, I conducted interdisciplinary research to contribute to large-scale economic issues that impact the availability of and accessibility to basic needs.In 2017, I co-founded, Topl. A purpose-built blockchain infrastructure that increases coordination and efficiency in ethical or sustainable ecosystems, creates stories for responsibly sourced products, and unlocks innovative financing mechanisms across industries.In 2022, I joined Imperative Global’s team of industry leaders, as CTO. We are committed to relentlessly pursuing a better world by transforming how carbon offset projects are designed, developed, operated, and optimized with technology in the most hard-to-reach places worldwide!
