No Solos is dedicated to freeing voices — written, spoken, and sung — and we teach in a unique, inter-disciplinary fashion, working along the fluid continuum of expression from breath to utterance to story to song. Our arts and practices are playful, sensuous, and elegant. We are instruments, marvelously designed to receive and express sound. However, most of us were not given the time we needed to learn about our expressive natures. In the race to find out who was better, who was best, and who was out of the running, we were hurried past a crucial stage in our aesthetic development. At the No Solos School, we ditch the modern, competitive categories of “artist” and “non-artist.” The expressive arts are re-introduced as a way to touch and be touched by the world.Our aim at No Solos — whether we are meditating, doing artistic practice, presenting something or revising — is to shift from communication to communion — something richer, more receptive, less compressed, and more available to surprise.
