Working on SpaceX's Satellite internet project. I manage the RF/RFIC team in Seattle. My team is determining the RF architecture of the communications system, deriving the system specifications and chip specifications through modelling in SystemVue/Matlab. We develop the RFIC's in-house: GaAs power amplifiers and LNA's, CMOS power amplifiers, beamformers and work with external partners to develop additional IC's that we don't yet have the engineering bandwidth for. We build and maintain the lab we use for testing and characterizing the IC's and run extensive tests on our chips. In some cases we also perform the ATE and calibration functions where the foundry is not yet capable of doing so.We work with the antenna, modem, MAC and general EE teams to perform system trade offs across disciplines and resolve cross functional problems with integration of the chips and the RF system.In addition to this I pick up odd functions where we have gaps, e.g. I install and maintain the IC CAD tools, manage our SOS revision system, writes various scripts, does local Linux maintenance on our workstations, run and fix LVS/DRC issues, some IC layout, some test and small SW pieces for test automation, ...

Managed a team of RF engineers.I built a team of 20 RF dev's and testers for work on 2G/3G/4G cellular, WIFI, BT and NFC. Set up a fully equipped RF lab with conformance systems from R&S, Anritsu, Spirent and Agilent. Developed custom test systems with equipment suppliers LitePoint and NI for multi-DUT testing, factory calibration and verification.Led the team in development of two mobile devices.

HW program manager for Zune media and other handheld devices.Managed the development of two non-disclosed mobile products. Coordinated the engineering development, EE, ME, RF, audio and antenna.Managed the development of a development platform for the ZuneHD device. The development platform is a 1ft x 1ft backplane board with various modules that plug into it; CPU module, memory module, PMU module, display module, wireless module, audio module and such. This allows for quick independent spins of the modules and for a large amount of debug/test signals to be broken out during early development.

Responsible for the hardware development of CDMA cell phones. Manage the HW sub-project teams: electronics (RF/BB), system design, antenna, audio, PWB, mechanics and prototyping.Analyze and negotiate HW requirements with marketing, formalize specifications, plan and execute implementation through direct control of sub-project teams. Responsible for the planning of prototypes and coordination with sourcing, logistics and manufacturing. Responsible for planning and executing R&D testing, meeting phone performance, functionality and visual quality. Designed RF-IQ demodulators for RX down-conversion using a BiCMOS process. Demodulator design included LO buffers and 4GHz frequency dividers. The design was done using both Cadence and Mentor design tools. Performed laboratory measurements on the device and created a test system with HP-VEE software for automated measurements of all key parameters. Worked on system concept evaluation for CDMA engine development, performed architecture studies, and design block studies and evaluations

Managed the RF design on the Nokia 3310 GSM phone. Project was produced in very high volumes, and passed 200,000,000 units, making it one of the biggest cell phone projects in the world measured in number of units. Led the team of 7 RF designers and 2 antenna engineers on a daily basis. Worked with mechanical, base band electrical, audio acoustics and manufacturing teams to integrate the product.

Worked with RF systems team to determine the front-end specification, gain, NF, IIP3.Designed image rejecting mixers in a bipolar silicon technology for a dual-band GSM RF IC. Design was based on double balanced Gilbert mixers with inductive degeneration.Performed lab measurements on design using noisefigure meter, vector network analyzer and spectrum analyzers.
