Kim Vanderwall is an experienced and creative facilitator who consults with nonprofit organizations in the areas of strategic planning, board development and community-based research. Most of her clients are small, community-based organizations – many based in cultural communities. She is co-author of the groundbreaking study, Coloring Outside the Box: One Size Does Not Fit All in Nonprofit Governance and the subsequent workbook, Ten Dimensions that Shape your Board.Before starting her consulting business, she was the Director of Development for the YWCA of Minneapolis where she was responsible for program development, strategic planning, institutional fundraising and communications. She spent 15 years in other capacities in health and human services organizations that focused on juvenile detention, community development, health promotion and family counseling; including two and ½ years in Peace Corp Paraguay. Ms. Vanderwall has an MA in Human Development from St. Mary’s University and a BA in Experimental Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has extensive training and experience in cross-cultural dynamics, is fluent in Spanish and has been fluent in Portuguese and Guarani. She is a Rotarian. Past board chair roles include Jeremiah Program National Governing Board, the Ramsey County Library, the Girl Scout Council of the St. Croix Valley and the Minnesota Women’s Golf Association. Other past community involvement includes board roles with Saint Paul Neighborhood Network, Colors Magazine, Institute for Renewing Community Leadership and Minnesota Women’s Golf Association Foundation; and serving as a volunteer mediator through the Dispute Resolution Center.Specialties: Facilitation, strategic planning, and board development.
