As venture lead, I was responsible for the development of a new initiative of the PharmAccess foundation: HealthConnect. With the proliferation of mobile payments in Africa, technology now offers a chance to develop demand driven, direct connection between individual payers and those that need healthcare most. The Health-Connect platform aims to be the linking pin between international payers, beneficiaries, insurers and providers. It makes cheap, efficient and result driven international payments for healthcare expenses possible between individuals. It allows individuals to fund healthcare directly to the mobile health wallet of others, both known and unknown. Where Uber or AirBnB connect supply and demand for transport and houses, Health Connect can play a pivotal role in linking international demand and supply for healthcare payments. Health Connect has the ambition to cover multiple African countries. First launch will be in Kenya, later followed by Nigeria and others.
