Another techie that studies day and night about cybersecurity. I often ask myself questions and answer them myself.Q. What does it take to be a true cybersecurity professional?A. I believe that being honest, trustworthy, righteous, bold, dedicated, knowledgeable, skilled and passionate are tenets of becoming one. A true cybersecurity professional must understand the objective and responsibility behind cybersecurity, one must truly understand how cyber attacks are being conducted in order to build an effective cyber resiliency strategy. Q. What is the objective of a cybersecurity framework?A. Cybersecurity is all about probability, the probability of being hacked and the probability of information assets being exfiltrated intentionally and unintentionally by a range of actors. There is a need to understand the value of assets, the risks associated to it, the requirements of the business and to ensure business continuity to remain positive despite negative events. Q. What is hacking?A. Quite broad to answer but mainly when hackers have a motive and a method, it is going to be an attack. There are two ways of invasion, human intervention whereby there is a need for a victim or vulnerability where a system is weak to withstand an attack. Two popular motives are financial gain and denial of services whereby hackers follow a cyber kill chain when conducting an attack and they are able to tweak this kill chain for their specific needs to achieve their objective.Q. How to prevent being hacked?A. There is no 100% prevention measure. A robust and resilience security posture must be present that demonstrates deterrence, attribution and resiliency. There is a need to demonstrate security controls securing information security, access controls and assets. The security posture must demonstrate security controls at each level of defense in depth may increase the complexity while reducing the probability of a successful compromise.
