I founded Health In Harmony and Project ASRI as a response to the devastation I saw in the rainforests of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. ASRI was sited in Sukadana, on the border of Gunung Palung, in 2007.Its mission is to recognize the inextricable link between human and environmental health and with a focus on providing healthcare as an incentive to protect natural resources, Health In Harmony is working toward a healthy planet for all.The key focus of the work has always been radically listening to communities and responding to the needs they identify. They asked for affordable health care and training in sustainable agriculture. In working with the communities to meet these needs, logging has dramatically decreased in the park.We are now looking to scale this model in different areas of the world. We are now working in partnership with communities in the Manombo Special Reserve, in Madagascar as well.Our work has been profiled in Oprah Magazine, PBS’s News Hour with Jim Lehrer, National Geographic, the Sierra Club, Mongabay, Four Indonesian TV channels, Tempo Magazine, Kompas Newspaper and the Voice of America among others.

I co-founded Alam Sehat Lestari with Hotlin Ompusunggu and Antonia Gorog in 2006.I cherish the opportunity to work with the impressive medical and conservation teams there who work with intense commitment, love, and ethics. I feel so lucky to get to follow along in their path.ASRI now has 120 staff all of whom are Indonesian and I am the only non-Indonesian on the ASRI board.

I joined the Entrepreneurs' Organization in 2017 in support of my non-profit, Health In Harmony.We won the Impact Company of the Year in 2020.

I was chosen for this fellowship through my work in partnership with communities in Indonesia.In 2018, the healthcare programs run by ASRI Clinic received 9,000 patients and allowed for a 67% decline in infant mortality. Gunung Palung rainforest (where the clinic is located) contains the equivalent of 14 years of San Francisco's CO2 emissions, thanks to the conservation programs run through ASRI.

I was chosen as a Fellow through my healthcare and conservation work in partnership with communities in Indonesia at Alam Sehat Lestari. I also am working to bring that work to scale in other parts of the world (Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park in Indonesia and the Manombo Special Reserve in Madagascar).

I have had the honor to do two TEDx talks and share some of the amazing journey that this work of planetary health has been. "Kinari is an American physician who first came to Indonesia in 1993.
