As Tech Lead I am responsible for the further development and complete provincial roll out of Criminal eFile, an application that manages the "legal disclosure" process for all provincial offences with Alberta. Using secure connections with Law Enforcement Agencies to provide the content to be disclosed, Criminal eFile provides business workflows to manage the appropriate redaction processes (according to the privacy concerns associated with the accused) and make the content available to the appropriate Defence Counsel representing the accused all performed within a secure "Protected B" environment. This application replaces a somewhat disjoint and ad hoc, mostly paper-based suite of processes previously used by otherwise independent crown prosecution offices. With over 450 submissions per day and over 350,000 cases being managed by Criminal eFile, it is estimated that this application has currently saved over 100,000 kilograms of paper.Building on the success of Criminal eFile, a more demanding "First Appearance Bail Hearing" application was added. This 18hr/day, 365 day/year application manages both the distribution of "Bail Hearing Information Packages" to Crown, Duty Counsel, Defence Counsel and Judicial Services as well as managing the 6+ provincial courtrooms' hearing lists all ensuring that all accused meet their constitutional rights to a bail hearing within 24 hours of arrest. The application manages approximately 150 trials per day for the province of Alberta.
