Kindy Kruller, AICP, LEED-AP, is an established urban planner dedicated to helping communities envision an equitable, vibrant, and sustainable future. She has worked across various scales, always starting from the stakeholder perspective to ensure outcomes that authentically reflect the community's vision. With 20 years of experience spanning the private, non-profit, and government sectors, Kindy brings a wealth of knowledge to her work.She currently serves as Senior Program Manager at Illinois Green Alliance, where she leads the Building Energy Resource Hub’s programs and partnerships. Launched in 2023 by Illinois Green Alliance, the Hub assists existing commercial and multi-family buildings in reducing emissions, saving energy, and future-proofing their operations. The Hub follows the model of similar initiatives in New York City, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Washington, DC, helping buildings decarbonize and comply with emerging energy codes like Local Law 97 in New York City and the Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) in Washington, DC. Kindy is enthusiastic about helping Illinois buildings find their path to decarbonization, particularly during this period of increased federal funding, tax credits, and new state policies.Before joining Illinois Green Alliance, Kindy's work centered on municipal planning in both public and private sectors. She spent over a decade at Cook County, where she managed a suite of innovative workforce development programs and designed county-wide stakeholder engagement efforts that guided more than $70 million in capital investments. Throughout her career, she has overseen a diverse array of programs, including LEED building certification, community sustainability plans, capital planning, land use approvals, and interagency collaboration.In her free time, Kindy enjoys spending time with her family and exploring everything the Chicago region has to offer. She is an avid native gardener and volunteers as a Natural Area steward at Portage Park, where she is leading the creation of a children’s nature play area, slated to open in June 2025.
