I am a working artist. As an art educator I have experience teaching as a visual artist/instructor from 1978 - 1992 and in public school from 1992 - 2014. I have taught everyone from toddlers through senior citizens in a variety of settings. From 2014 to 2020 I taught visual art at St Stephens Episcopal School-Houston. I originally taught kindergarten through High School International Baccalaureate. With the closure of the high school program in 2016 I continue to teach upper elementary through middle school classes including IMYC (International Middle Years Currículum). Over the six years that I taught here I organized student recycled fashion shows at Discovery Green and student exhibits both on the campus and at Capsule Gallery. I was a member of De Zavala Elementary's Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC) 2000 - 2002 and 2009 - 2013.I served as one of three Texas Art Education Association Area VI Representatives from 2007 to the 2013 and on the TAEA Council at Large as the Elementary Division Chair Elect.In addition, I served on the Texas Education Agency's committee for the revision of the Fine Arts TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge Skills) for middle school visual artsI've presented on paper cutting, origami and geometry, grant writing and using iOS devices in the art room among other things. I've presented at the Texas Art Education Association annual conference, the National Art Education Association annual convention and the American Association of University Women-West Harris County Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics Conference for Middle School Young Women, in addition to presenting teacher workshops in both Houston Independent School District and Galena Park Independent School District.As a life long learner, my goal is to continue to work with others sharing my knowledge and love of art.Specialties: Art advocacy, art education, assemblage, ceramics, collage, origami, paper cutting, PMC (Precious Metal Clay)
