Senior Research Fellow (Srf)Indian Institute Of Technology, Bombay Oct 2017 - Jan 2019Mumbai, Maharashtra, InThis was a 15 month full time Senior Research Fellow position during which I worked on developing a low-cost solar inverter topology for use in rural areas. As a senior research fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, my Job Role included independent study and research on developing a low cost solar inverter which can be used in rural areas of India where there is a shortage of power. In the initial stages of this project work, I carried out a rigorous literature survey in order to determine which topology of an inverter would provide me the desired results based on my requirements of developing a low cost model. After finalizing the topology of the inverter, I carried out its simulation in PSCAD simulation software in order to check if the prototype would work well when implemented in real time. Further, the PCB designing of the prototype was carried out with the help of the OrCAD PCB designing software. The customized PCB was then tested for real time use. The PIC microcontroller was used for interfacing the hardware with the software. The PCB board included the circuits for - Sensor, microcontroller & its Power Supply, Battery Charging Circuit, Feedback of Inverter to the controller, MPPT Algorithm for the PV Panels, rectifier, inverter and dc link. The DSPIC33Fx microcontroller was used for providing the gating pulses to the semiconductor switches as well as for the closed loop sensor control.Key Responsibilities - PCB designing, schematic capture, board layout, verification and debugging, component evaluation and board testing, rework and assembly of systems.Also, deep understanding of embedded systems concepts and excellent knowledge of renewable energy integration with power electronics converters, are some of the major gains from this project.Other Skills acquired during this project are as follows:-PSCAD-OrCAD-Debugging and Testing of Hardware-Design of Battery Charging Circuit-Microcontroller interface with hardware-MPPT -
