I'm just a guy who deeply fell in love with AI and Machine Learning. Never studied them in college, I studied Civil Engineering instead. During college, I started shifting my focus from Civil Engineering to AI, it affected my grades a lot, but it is something I can't regret. I chose the right path. I appreciate my civil engineering background though, someone said something about connecting the dots, I am not sure if it was Steve Jobs or Musk, but I can say, those engineering classes created a mathematical foundation for me and made it easier for me to learn AI and fully understand them.This Journey has not been easy, there have been moments of joy and laughter, I have experienced failures a lot, and failed in 2 startups, but I can classify being in startups as a school of thought, despite failing it never changed my interest in AI. I love AI and I am more into the conversation about how this amazing technology can benefit people particularly the less privileged in society. I have been advocating for explainable AI and ethical and responsible use of AI among others.I love doing research and it is through research that I have uncovered a lot about this field. I am from Africa and I have been observing a lot of what is going on in the continent, and what I discovered was, that we are underrepresented in AI, we are being viewed only as the consumers. people pushing for regulation on what has not been developed yet, I have written articles on balancing innovation and regulation since overregulation can hinder innovation, you can check out the articles there.I work with two startups now, GraphFusionAI, an open-source toolkit for building graph-based multi-agent systems, and MsingiAI, a research organization dedicated to advancing AI Research and Development in Africa. All of the work is open source, I have been championing and advocating for Opensource AI development in Africa since open source means a broader and wider adoption of AI and I will keep doing that. I don't know where this path will take me but I am very optimistic about the future.I am interested in having conversations about AI, Startups, and Africa as a continent in general.
