Goodwill is a not-for-profit organization committed to helping people become independent through education and training leading to employment. Sometimes these are individuals who face specific challenges, such as language barriers, or physical or mental disabilities. But often they are people whose lives have been affected by plant closings, company downsizing, or simply the impact of a difficult economy.At the Easley Job Connection, I provided personalized, one-on-one services to jobseekers to assist them in their job search process. This included resume creation and editing, job search tips and advice, assistance with online application processes, interviewing advice, and occasional personal coaching. I also cultivated relationships with local employers to assist them with their staffing needs (through on-site job fairs and job postings) and connect them with qualified jobseekers. Developing relationships with community partners was also vital to my work as this allowed me to refer jobseekers for other services they may need, and to receive referrals from these partners. There’s nothing better than hearing from a jobseeker, “I got the job!”

Ten at the Top (TATT) is a nonprofit organization that fosters collaboration across Upstate South Carolina, focusing on issues that cross county lines and affect everyone's quality of life (think transportation, education, workforce development, etc.). TATT serves as a convening organization that brings together elected officials, business leaders, government entities, the nonprofit sector, and community residents to discuss these issues and identify opportunities for collaborative partnerships.As Program Manager, I coordinated TATT's five task forces, which address Economic and Entrepreneurial Vitality, Human Potential, Community Vibrancy, Sustainable Growth, and Natural Beauty and Resources. I also coordinated sub-task force meetings for Senior Issues, Upstate Professional Planners, and Air Quality.

I interned with the Centre for Conflict Management (CCM), an academic department at the National University of Rwanda, for six months in 2012 as part of my degree program at SIT Graduate Institute. My work included assisting CCM Masters students with their coursework and theses, editing articles and research proposals for staff, engaging in courses and events related to Rwandan post-genocide studies, and writing content for the CCM website. Additionally, I collected primary data for my own research project while in Rwanda which eventually formed the basis of my Masters thesis: "Post-Genocide Identity Reconstruction: The Rwandan Peacebuilding Community’s Perspective."

Upstate Forever is a land conservation and advocacy organization that protects critical lands, waters, and the unique character of the Upstate of South Carolina.In this position, I stewarded a 2,000+ membership base and executed unique special events in support of Upstate Forever’s mission. Membership recruitment and retention were a large part of the job, and were carried out primarily through customized communications to existing members and by making contact with potential members through a presence at community events, speaking engagements, and tours of our amazing LEED Silver office space, a renovated residence from 1916. I organized several annual fundraising and educational events, including a silent art auction and yearly membership meetings. Other duties included managing our Volunteer Coordinator and dedicated volunteer base, maintaining social media platforms, and designing direct mailings and event flyers.
