    During this time period, I was one of the partners that helped to establish a startup outdoor company headquartered in Selma, NC. Most of my efforts included identifying conforming outdoor locations, negotiating land leases with property owners, and erecting new billboard structures in a turn key fashion. As a result, I became very familiar with the permitting process required by federal, NC DOT, and many of the local outdoor advertising ordinances. On numerous occasions, I've appeared before local planning boards on rezoning issues, and to obtain special or conditional use if required by the local zoning jurisdiction. From 1990-1993, I was a member of the planning board for the Town of Smithfield, NC. I've worked closely with the local NC DOT outdoor staff, and also learned the NC DOT regulations as they pertained to selected vegetation removal from Federal Aid Primary right-of-ways. I was active in the NCOAA, and participated in the association's lobbying efforts at both the federal and state level. Lastly,I was responsible for securing advertisers for the new locations.
