We currently work with 750+ media outlets used weekly by 15+ million Latino readers in the USA. On the LatinoLYTICS side since 1985 Kirk has overseen over 600 readership studies for Latino newspapers, magazines, and enewsletters. Most importantly, the just completed National Latino Media Study looked at reading from a whole new viewpoint and from the 10,640 national sample found that Latinos who read spend an average of 28.3 hours a week reading in both print (newspapers, magazines, and books) and digital formats. On the Media Representation side, between 1997 and 2007 we placed over $24 million in advertising into Latino newspapers & magazines.On the book publishing side, WPR Books has published over 100 books. The best selling one, The National Latino & American Indian Scholarship Directory, has more than 182,000 copies in distribution. Josefina Lopez, Rick Najera, and Jose Chavez are some of the many authors WPR works with. We have produced Hispanic Marketing 101 since 2000 and in 2005 developed one of the first Latino focused podcasts.

Empowering Latino Futures, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded to promote literacy in the community in all forms: educational, financial, health, reading, and civic engagement awareness. We aspire to advance the cause of reading as a means of self-improvement both personally and professionally.Since 1997, when Edward James Olmos and Kirk Whisler co-founded Latino Literacy Now, over a million people have been impacted by our organization’s activities:* 72 Latino Book & Family Festivals have been held in 12 cities around the USA with a combined attendance of 900,000+.* 25 International Latino Book Awards have been held honoring 3,000+ authors and publishers.* The Latino Books into Movies Awards, started in 2010, has seen winning books movingtowards production or preproduction.* In 2015 the International Society of Latino Authors was formed as a way to better meet the development needs of authors and book buyers.* Education Begins in the Home encourages children to read by providing free books and has given away over 220,000 to underserved children.* Through our Informador magazines and newsletters in North San Diego County and now Sacramento we are reaching thousands of people each week with health, education, financial empowerment, and civic engagement information.

Have overseen or assisted on the marketing of over 10 television shows and 15 movies, including Stand and Deliver, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez, Ugly Betty, Battlestar Galactica, Desperate Housewives, American Family, American Me, Bless Me Ultima, Walkout, and the George Lopez show. Companies that I've worked with include Disney, ABC, Universal, NBC, and PBS.
