About Kirk Lapointe

I am a longtime media executive, with experience as the editorial leader at CTV News, Southam News and the Hamilton Spectator. I helped launch National Post as its founding Executive Editor and was a day-one host on CBC News Network (then known as CBC Newsworld). I have been Ottawa Bureau Chief of The Canadian Press, Managing Editor of the Vancouver Sun, and English-language Ombudsman of CBC. I was most recently the Publisher and Executive Editor at Business in Vancouver Media Group and VP Editorial of Glacier Media, its parent company. There I managed the operation's business, led the editorial team, wrote columns online and in print, moderated event panels, and co-hosted podcasts. I now write weekly for Glacier Media and bi-weekly for North Shore News. I host events as a moderator/interviewer and host podcasts.I teach ethics and leadership at the University of British Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism. I have been Executive Director of the Organization of News Ombudsmen.In recent years I was a daily radio host on Roundhouse Radio, 98.3 FM Vancouver. Before that I was the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Self-Counsel Press, the country's leading self-help publisher of financial and legal titles.Going back some time, I was the Canadian Editor for Billboard Magazine.I ran for Mayor under the banner of the Non-Partisan Association in the 2014 election.
