About Kirk Rodgers

Geoscientist with 20+ years in the oil patch (both corporate and start-up) on both the technical and sales sides focused on seismic imaging, 3D modeling, and reservoir simulation including the use of in-situ microbial DNA analysis as a produced fluid sourcing marker. Pivoted to three successful years with a start-up in channel sales of a Wi-Fi-based plug load control system to Energy Service Companies, and now learning the structural engineering business from the ground up to eventually become an effective software trainer and provide management assistance. What an adventure!

  • Biota Technology
    Operations Manager
    Biota Technology May 2021 - Sep 2021
    Houston, Texas, United States
  • Biota Technology
    Business Development Manager, Conventional Resources
    Biota Technology Mar 2019 - Mar 2020
    Houston, Texas Area
BDM role included account management and new business development duties in onshore and offshore conventional liquids plays. Biota applies our proprietary genomics workflow (microbial DNA sequencing and analysis) to well cuttings and reservoir fluid samples to determine fluid origins and movements over time. Essentially, we study the microbes associated with reservoirs so we can provide insight about which sand is contributing fluids, and their relative abundances. We provide production allocation estimates from multiple commingled wells, or zonal contributions from multiple pay zones in a single well from cuttings/sidewall cores/MDT samples and compare their microbial populations to produced fluids taken at the wellhead to achieve these goals.
  • Best Energy Reduction Technologies
    Business Development Manager
Best Energy Reduction Technologies Oct 2016 - Feb 2019
    Houston, Texas Area
Responsible for ensuring that Energy Service Companies (ESCO's) that provide Energy Saving Performance Contracts (ESPC's) for School Districts, Municipalities, Higher Education and other large energy consumers with uncontrolled plug loads in their facilities included our Bert Smart Plugs (www.bertbrain.com) in their projects. I was based in Houston and covered the South, West and Central (36 states) regions of the US.
  • Schlumberger
    Integrated Consulting Tech Sales
    Schlumberger Aug 2015 - Feb 2016
    Houston, Texas Area
Schlumberger moved my consulting group under the management of the segment responsible for the software platforms that we use to help our customers answer their technical questions, Software Integrated Solutions (SIS). My role was to help our SIS account managers identify and develop consulting engagements with our customers and prospective customers.
  • Schlumberger
    Petrotechnical Services Account Manager
    Schlumberger May 2015 - Jul 2015
    Houston, Texas Area
I was an account manager for our PetroTechnical Services (PTS) segment. PetroTechnical Services were involved in all aspects of finding and developing oil and gas fields from seismic survey design and acquisition to state of the art seismic data processing. PTS also had an extensive multiclient library of 2D and 3D seismic data covering many of the hydrocarbon plays in and around North America. PTS performed various types of qualitative and quantitative studies incorporating all types of well log data, production data, seismic data, core data, and any other type of available information about the subsurface. We had industry leading expertise and capabilities in seismic reservoir characterization (faults and fractures, fluid properties and rock properties) and 3D reservoir modeling using our flagship Petrel software. Next, we modeled the fluids within the reservoir dynamically, matching all production history (oil, gas, condensate, water) with the corresponding reservoir zone as a way of determining how much hydrocarbon was there to begin with, how much had already been produced, and most importantly moving forward, how much was left. Reservoir simulation can then show us how best to locate and extract the unswept pay. PTS also had industry leading Oil and Gas training programs through our NExT training department.
  • Schlumberger
Business Development Manager - Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering
    Schlumberger Jan 2012 - May 2015
    Houston, Texas Area
My focus was developing consulting projects for Schlumberger's full range of G&G and Engineering consulting disciplines from seismic reservoir characterization to seismic interpretation to geologic modeling, geomechanical (pressure and stress) modeling and petrophysical field characterizations, to discreet fracture network modeling. From these "static" models (estimations of subsurface conditions at the time measurements are taken) we then moved into the dynamic modeling realm by initializing a reservoir engineering model, matching hydrocarbon (and produced water) historic production histories to the geologic intervals from which it was produced, then running various forward reservoir simulation cases to estimate the further production potential of each to optimize further drilling and water flooding plans for best production economics point forward. By integrating geophysics, geology, petrophysics and geomechanics for detailed and well-calibrated geologic models, then forward reservoir simulations (reservoir engineering), we optimized a field development plan based on the modeled reservoir and historic production properties. My role was to find and develop such fully integrated field development planning projects and/or smaller scale projects involving any subset of the technical disciplines we offered.
  • Schlumberger
Business Development Manager - Reservoir Characterization
    Schlumberger Apr 2008 - Dec 2011
    Houston, Texas Area
The focus of the group was reservoir characterization and lithology prediction through inversion of seismic data. The inversion process calibrates the surface seismic data to data collected along drilled wellbores (well log and core data) to gain better spatial understanding of geologic layering, physical rock properties, elastic rock properties, likely reservoir extents and heterogeneities. Fault and fracture identification and delineation was the other main focus for conventional reservoirs. This is important in unconventional plays, as far less porous and permeable rocks are being targeted for hydrocarbon extraction, and existing fractures are repeatedly proven to be a (the?) key to better production, as in many of these formations, insufficient porosity and permeability exist (even after fracking in many cases) to make economic wells without them...
  • Schlumberger - Westerngeco
    Account Manager - North America
    Schlumberger - Westerngeco Oct 2005 - Mar 2008
    Houston, Texas Area
Account Manager for various Super Major, Major and small to mid-sized independent accounts in the Houston area. I handled multiclient seismic data licensing, seismic data processing services and seismic data acquisition services, both on land and at sea.

    Schlumberger - Westerngeco Jun 2003 - Oct 2005
    Port Of Spain, Trinidad
Led a seismic data processing group which was involved in merging and reprocessing several existing marine streamer and OBC seismic datasets through pre-stack Kirchhoff time migration to provide a seamless view of the subsurface for development and further exploration purposes. Position had a large training component as all team members were fresh-outs.
  • Schlumberger - Westerngeco
