Greenfield project to develop new data analytics pipeline to analyse and display security logs from the existing .NET application. I designed and developed a Kafka/IOT style message ingestion platform within a dockerised Azure cloud infrastructure. Within Kafka data was further processed with KSQL stream processing (Scala) for (time window based) session recovery. The data pipeline also augmented some message data using python and 3rd party web service to obtain detailed GEO data. I also designed and implemented a novel fully unsupervised machine learning algorithm (deep network with Hebbian style learning) for anomaly detection amongst the authorisation data (with 3D visualisation in Unity3D c#). The business visualisations were based on Elasticsearch with Grafana/Kibana dashboards.

At Just Eat (JE) I worked as a senior engineer/architectwithin the global Fintech PD team. I was initially tasked with the conversion of numerous legacy ASP VB finance applications into a modern C# .NET & .NET core/Javascript/React architecture which could be fully deployed into an AWS/TeamCity cloud environment (CI/CD). Working within a small team in a large tech organisation of engineers I was responsible for the full life-cycle design, build, test and cloud deployment of a new generic distributed workflow/job processing application - aka the ‘InvoicingScheduler’ . They were largely server side C#/.NET & .NET Core applications with distributed eventing services (Signlr), Restful web API with Javascript/React front end.At Just Eat I was able to extend my knowledge and experience of AWS cloud engineering and DevOps skills. A particular feature of Just Eat was the microservice component architecture engineering done at an unprecedented scale and with near real-time engineering constraints between some components. As well as learning many new AWS skills and services I was pleased to be able to research and develop some new serverless computing (AWS Lambda) proof of concept demonstrations to inform future design decisions within JE.

I worked as the senior developer in the digital mortgages team throughout the beta to live phase of the project. We worked towards a high profile deployment of a new .GOV.UK service (GDS). My tasks involved working as part of a large multi-disciplinary agile team in a BDD first approach to resolve numerous technical, security and business issues including the development of a digital mortgage signing service. I also helped to provide best practice leadership/mentoring in terms of code development (functional & fluent style coding) and technical architecture. Most of the development on this project is open source Github hosted (Python/Flask/Django/Alembic ORM, .NET C#, Java, Ruby, Cucumber, Postgres), and developed in a Vagrant VM moving through a CI Jenkins, puppetised git-flow pipeline (with plans to move to docker). Comprehensive automated unit/integration and acceptance test suites were developed as part of our test driven quality ethos.

Exony Ltd a market leader in enterprise level voice management and analytics solutions which was recently acquired by Egain Plc, a leading provider of digital customer engagement solutions (call centers/voice, online chat, social etc).At Egain I worked as a remote full stack/full cycle technical development lead and architect on:-The design & development of an Open Social desktop platform supporting complex business gadgets (via Restful service API) developed with a Javascript frontend (using many common Javascript frameworks) onto an extensive enterprise scale heterogeneous server side technology stack written in Java & C#/C++ (multi-tenancy & type 2 data structures). Provided mentoring and technical leadership within a team of 6 developers (subset of a larger team of 20+). TeamCity - Continuous integration, build & test environmentAs a lead architect & developer for the design and development of a new mission critical distributed real-time scalable (horizontal & vertical) messaging infrastructure (called Ebus) based on the Hazelcast distributed in-memory data grid (Java 1.8) middleware persistently backed onto NoSql datastores Mongo/Redis. Events are sourced in real-time with low-latency directly from Cisco communications hardware processed in memory via WSO2 (complex event processor - also based on Hazelcast) and then distributed via Ebus to 30,000+ clients via websockets or Comet.

At IHS I worked as a lead developer within an Agile team and I was initially tasked with the design, development and implementation of a number of business analytics modules as well as problem solving and enhancements to the existing applications. I worked across a range of technologies with HTML/CSS/Javascript and common frameworks such as JQuery/Dojo on the front end. I developed parts of the middleware layers using standard web services or WCF within a traditional ASP.NET framework. The server side services used NHibernate and EF5 as ORMs onto a SQL database. I designed and integrated an analytics module within an existing tightly integrated Google Maps/ArcGIS mapping module.I was also asked to design and build a sophisticated business intelligence proof of concept application to support the ‘Analyst of the future’ in a short time frame. This lead me to develop a sophisticated GUI frontend application (D3, Javascript, Jquery/Dojo, Bootstrap) built on top of the Neo4J graph database (Java).

I was solely responsible for the design, development and deployment of a cross platform enterprise mobile app to record vehicle fleet inspections and job sheets across the UK to a centralised SQL database. Some outstanding features of the developed system included the ability to seamlessly switch between online and offline modes of operation, a ‘slick’ user interface experience allowing data to be entered much more quickly than competing products and a scalable server side infrastructure.The phone app was developed using jQuery Mobile/JSON and HTML5 (PhoneGap/Intel XDK). The server side used C#,LinQ,.Net entity layer (MVC3/ASP) and stateless Web Services interfaced with an SQL 2008 database (custom designed remote sync - eventually consistent). A particular feature of the server side was the need to carefully optimise and integrate with the existing legacy accounts system applications. My role also included specifying, selecting and deploying a mobile device management (MDM) platform to facilitate the field management of the mobile devices.

I was the founding director and owner of Merlin Systems Corp. Ltd. I built the company from scratch to a small core team of 8 people with an outsourced manufacturing operation. I am used to pitching business proposals to prospective and existing clients and handling all aspects of customer care. The company specialised in leading edge complex technological projects including electronics design, control systems, mechanical design (3d cad) and software based systems. Below are some of the projects successfully completed:MerlinLive - WCF RIA Services Application, Python (remote embedded Client), C#, Webservices, Remote Objects, Silverlight, Sql, Linq. Merlin Revolution - Bluetooth/WIFI marketing communications platform. Ubuntu Linux embedded system, Python,C/C++,TCP/IP. Core Merlin product. I designed the hardware, firmware, software and cloud services for this product.Swarm Robotics Lab - A Windows based networked architecture using multi-camera real-time vision, real-time control & networking. Primarily developed in C# and .NET.Robot Village - A Windows based networked architecture using multi-camera real-time vision, real-time control & networking (TCP/IP). Primarily developed in C# and .NET. This was interfaced with a number of 6DOF robots arms and other sensor and relay based system.ThisLocation - Mobile app to locate special offers (like a sat nav for special deals). IPhone/Android App - HTML5/Javascript,Android.Merlin Miabot Pro (Autonomous Mobile Robot) - Real-time embedded ‘C’ robot firmware & Bluetooth comms. based around a dual core Atmel processor design. Complex miniature electromechanical system which was a core Merlin product. I designed this product and developed the firmware including numerous accessories such as sonar, gripper, embedded camera etcRobot Soccer Engine - A complete platform and architecture for autonomous robot football. Developed using Visual Studio C++. Technologies covered include AI,Neural Networks, Vision Systems.

At the time this was the 3rd largest Java/Swing project in the world. I played a key role within a team of senior designers in formulating the system architecture, business requirements and initial proof of concept coding for the National Social Welfare IT system. In this role I was keen to ensure the design encompassed a service oriented architecture (using technologies like Corba,RMI and Object Request Brokers (ORB)) to promote re-use and flexibility of the system being developed.

SAA specialised in the secure electronic exchange of information between computer systems known as EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). As a senior developer on the Windows (MFC/Win32) team (10 developers) I was responsible for the design, specification and maintenance of core components of the system as well as occasionally performing in a technical sales support role. During my time at SAA I was given professional training in business analysis (OOA), requirements capture and object oriented design (OOD) using UML methodologies.

Managed multiprocesser linux installation with 100 users. Developed many of the commercial systems managed a team of 4 people.
