At ErinoakKids, I am a part of the school-based rehabilitation services (SBRS). I go into schools to provide occupational therapy services that help to optimize classroom functioning for children who benefit from additional supports.

At the Boys and Girls Club, I worked in an interprofessional primary care setting with physiotherapy students and preceptors to facilitate occupational engagement for clients of all ages and diagnoses. The adult population consisted of clients post-stroke, with Parkinson's Disease, mental health challenges, and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The pediatric population consisted of clients with ASD, ADHD, learning challenges and behavioural challenges. We worked closely with client’s caregivers and families to support the child’s progress towards meeting their goals both in their home and school environments.

My primary roles at Millhaven Institution's Regional Treatment Center included managing a client caseload, and running meaningful activity groups. I independently ran a geriatric-cognitive exercise group for the inmates, and co-facilitated the cooking group. During one-on-one client interviews, I implemented CBT and DBT based modalities as a part of my intervention strategies, and practiced motivational interviewing techniques during these sessions. I administered assessments such as a sensory profile assessment, interpreted the results and began the implementation of the sensory program with a client. Throughout the 8 week placement, I was a valued member of the interdisciplinary team at the Regional Treatment Center.

Throughout my time at PRHC, I completed chart reviews based on physician notes and imaging reports. I discussed problems, goals of care and barriers to discharge with clients and other allied healthcare professionals in interdisciplinary team rounds. I conducted and scored the following assessments with stroke patients: PRHC’s non-standardized neuro assessment, MoCA, AFIM, FIM, Independent Living Scale (ILS), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Functional Assessment Battery (FAB). I contributed to discharge planning alongside PT, SLP, nursing, social work & home care, and charted independently.

Communicated with clients to understand garden build and maintenance requirements. Lead team through client requirements, gave guidance to site workers when needed, checked the team's work thoroughly. Created documents for clients, such as billing sheets and fertilizer lists.
