Kirsten Sims has spent her life and career dedicated to good things and now she's on a mission to #EndClothingInsecurity.Clothing Insecurity is a significant indicator of poverty—impacting 2 in 5 children in the United States every day. However, this hidden crisis struggles to get the visibility and support it needs. As a result, millions of American children experience social, emotional, and intellectual setbacks from school absenteeism, bullying, and low self-esteem. At the same time, clothing manufacturing perpetuates a relationship with clothing that is not needs based—making it even more difficult to understand that the assumption that everyone has access to appropriate clothing is wrong. Providing clothing to all children in their critical years of development IS possible, and in her current role of VP, External Affairs at Cradles to Crayons—the largest National nonprofit with Clothing Insecurity at the core of its mission—she's going to make sure that happens.Where she came from:After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Industrial Design and a plan for developing abandoned urban space by installing 50-foot daffodils, she spent time teaching press printing, installing Christmas animatronics, painting horse farm fences, and wandering around the US on buses. Kirsten landed in Boston by way of Rhode Island-Connecticut-NYC-England in 1999—her time here more than quadruples any other residence she’s had.A communications designer by trade and a collaborative problem solver by nature, Kirsten’s work includes footwear, exhibits, identity systems, marketing collateral, print and media advertising, tabletop display, video, photography, illustration, promotional materials, and a whole lot of strategic and conceptual thinking. (She’s a big fan of strategic and conceptual thinking.)Kirsten is always interested in and ready to collaborate on more good things!
