Solaris Cancer Care provide support to individuals on their cancer journey. Established by David Joske, a Haematologist who, while treating his patients, continually heard them complain about how hard it is to navigate the maze of the cancer treatment, the medical language, and also to get themselves away from having to think and deal with their cancer every minute of every day. Many patients suggested to him that complementary treatments (such as reflexology, counselling, exercise programs etc) helped them to keep a positive mindset. In 2001, Solaris Cancer Care was born to complement the medical treatment that his cancer patients were receiving. It has since grown to be offered out of a number of Perth hospitals and also in regional areas. The services have expanded to include helping with financial planning and grief. They also conduct research on ways society can minimise impacts on cancer sufferers. It provides all treatments for free and receives no government or corporate funding. They rely on donations like Dry July and the incredible generosity of the Red Sky Ride organisers, riders and sponsors.www.solariscare.org.au
