I participated in the Gallagher Summer Internship Program (GSIP) with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., a global insurance brokerage and risk management services firm. My focus during this internship was with the Environmental Liability team, where I was coached by a mentor for the role of an account executive in environmental insurance brokerage.While in Chicago, IL with the environmental team, I spent most of my time assisting in the development of new business and the renewal of existing accounts by performing analysis of the client marketing and coverage negotiation processes. I shadowed meetings with clients and carriers, and created and delivered educational presentations that broke down complex environmental risk and insurance topics. I conducted research on new environmental liability exposures and synthesized critical insights into informational reports, which served as knowledge resources for the environmental team and its clients.At the company headquarters in Rolling Meadows, IL, I made strong connections during a number of networking events, shadowed loss control visits, and attended professional development sessions focused primarily on public speaking, time management, and sales skills. I was able to polish these skills by delivering weekly speeches on industry developments to C-suite executives, and by collaborating with team members to present sales pitches and creatively solve business problems in challenging mock scenarios.

I provided service to the members of the private Lake Forest Club.

I interfaced with the community and developed public awareness strategies to boost participation in Solar Urbana-Champaign, a group purchasing program for commercial and residential solar panels. My responsibilities included writing and scheduling online press releases, conducting targeted business and residential community outreach through print collateral, and engaging in telephone and email campaigns. I was recognized for helping exceed the 250-kW enrollment milestone one month ahead of schedule.

I was trusted to handle the transit of high-value vehicles and to ensure customer service interactions were concluded to customers’ expectations. I occasionally directed the porter team on improvement projects around the workplace, and identified employee safety concerns and worked with management to resolve them.

I was responsible for service transactions including repair orders and invoices amounting to a daily average of roughly $60,000. While working this position, I gained direct customer service experience and developed customer interaction skills.
