IntroductionKitaro is a Special Lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science, Tokyo Women’s Medical University.Kitaro has unique experiences in his working career. He started working as a scientist in Tokyo Women’s Medical University and Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has worked in surgical field for 8 years and researched and developed specific solutions working with surgeons. From 2017, he joined Hitachi Ltd. as a senior engineer. He worked for new business development in the healthcare field. During four years at Hitachi, he was involved in the development of two products and gained experience in turning ideas into businesses.Special SkillsKitaro has the ability to “produce something from nothing.” This means using a computer-aided design system (CAD) to make a real physical object starting from a design or sketch on a notebook. He is focusing on research and development of digital surgery systems for use in operating rooms. For example, he plays a central role in the development of operating room nurse robot systems, surgical learning support systems, and remote surgery support systems. He has also collaborated with Microsoft and Intel to build a gesture-based image control system as a commercial product. He is also involved in the development of new medical equipment through collaboration between medicine and engineering through collaborative research with many other companies.
