I became a civil rights activist while at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.Over Easter vacation, Quinten Young, who came to our campus from North Carolina, organized a cross section of our campus, took us on a bus to see the segregated South.We visited a Virginia site where the community closed its public school to avoid integration.We visited North Carolina, where we split into three groups and sent these groups to 3 different Black Colleges.The following year I became the person in charge of our student government civil rights committee.Our group attracted low=income high school students from Chicago,IL and Milwaukee to come and visit our campus, and our student government paid for their trip. I was awarded a Wisconsin Key at the end of that semester.I joined The Student & Faculty group for Civil Rights, and the off campus Congress for Racial Equality.l
