My life’s work has always been to impact our youth in unprecedented ways. At the age of 10, my 5th grade teacher, Tracy Nolen, set my passion into motion. She exemplified the educator I aimed to be, reaching past the child and finding subtle ways to assist and encourage the parent via unconditional love, tutoring in difficult areas, pick-up and drop-off as well as(unpaid) aftercare services.Mrs. Nolen will never know how much she impacted me that year.I have made it my life’s work to provide these services and more to my community.After high school I attended the University of South AL on a Presidental scholarship for an early childhood education degree (noncertification) with a minor in business management. Although I did not finish, this higher education furthered my passion for youth and continued even after having to move to distance learning after the birth of my first child in 2015. Once finishing with school in 2017, I got a position with a state agency, JCCEO, that provided childcare as a service. Through this employer, I was able to acquire my CDA and CPR/AED certifications as well as experience the role of an infant and 3-year-old classroom lead.Once I left JCCEO, I had two beautiful little girls and had been recruited by my previous manager to move forward with her to her next location and open their first 2-year-old classroom as lead teacher. I was ecstatic to say the least. This experience gave me knowledge in developmentally age-appropriate learning materials, the power of literacy in building language, developmentally and age-appropriate educational setups (not always a classroom). While in this position, I also had the opportunity to attend a 4-part PITC conference which pivoted my professional career and reinforced my belief that saving a child does not start with the child, but the parents, family and village graced with the opportunity to raise them. I left this company at the start of the COVID pandemic and began freelance nanny work under my own business name, Saylor's Village. This allowed me to serve more families in the Birmingham area than I could have ever imagined.In 2023 I had the opportunity to return to college with a new fire in my heart. My desire to help the youth had expounded to helping and learning from anyone that I came in contact with. I plan to use my degree to study conflict resolution across cultures. I am applying my research to my business endeavors to provide vital resources and efficient solutions within my community.
